Cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) – Part 2

The cost-effectiveness analysis  (CEA) allows you to evaluate the cost per patient healed after treatment and, consequently, which therapeutic options must be chosen.
For example, if I know that:

the drug X costs 38 €
the drug Y costs 35 €
60% of patients treated with drug X responded to treatment
40% of patients treated with the drug Y responded to treatment
I can compare, in terms of cost (C) - effectiveness (E), the two treatments in this way:
CX / EX = € 38 / 0.6 = € 63.3
CY / EY = € 35 / € 0.4 = € 87.5
The cost per treated patient with the drug X is € 63.3, while it rise to € 87.5 for the drug Y. A patient healed with the drug X costs € 24.2 less than one healed with Y. Drug X is dominant because it is also the most effective option.

L'analisi costo-efficacia (CEA) - Parte 2
L'analisi costo-efficacia consente di verificare a quanto ammonta il costo per paziente guarito dopo un trattamento e, di conseguenza, valutare quale delle opzioni terapeutiche scegliere.
